What if a Crisis can be your Biggest Blessing?

Napoleon Hill Quote - Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat

“Opportunity often it comes in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat.”
Napoleon Hill

After going through a few intense days of the biggest financial collapse that my country Cyprus has ever experienced, followed by my initial natural reaction of shock, stress, concern and disappointment of watching the new grim reality unfold for my country, I find myself a few days later feeling supercharged like powerhouse and ready to take over the world!

Don’t get me wrong, I am not one of those ‘dreamers’ who have no connection to reality. I realize however that in within every crisis, whether personal, local or global,  lies strong message and an opportunity for massive positive change.

Have you ever considered that a big Crisis in your life (or in your country) is usually the very thing that pushes you to do something much greater than what you did up to the point that the Crisis appeared?

Or that the Crisis can actually bring you to a much better place than you are now, by making you realize what is truly important and pushing you to take massive action for change?

The past few days have shocked my system in such a way, that I felt the huge urge to proceed with some projects that are very important to me, but I have been procrastinating on. I was always making excuses for not finding the time to do them and I was putting them off for later.

I realized that if I don’t do it now, I would never make the time do it.  It’s like someone gave me a big push to move ahead and go get things done.

And this is not the first time that this happens to me. All the times I made a big positive change in my life were after a crisis. This can also happen on a local and global level. A country can experience fast positive growth after a big crisis, if the messages that the crisis brings are decoded correctly and if people take organized massive action towards change.

The reality is that we all tend to become too comfortable with the lives we live, with the salary we earn at a job that doesn’t really excite us or worse, makes us miserable or with a certain income level that we are accustomed to earning either through our business or our employers.

We go through life just being almost miserably comfortable and following a routine, which has nothing to do with what we really like to be doing if we were free to choose. We close our eyes to the reality around us because it is convenient to do so and accept things that don’t allign with our true beliefs and values.

Most of the times, all it takes to stir us into a new direction or push us to do the things that we really want to do, is a crisis like a big loss in finances,  loss of job or a defeat in a business venture. This crisis may actually be a blessing in disguise. It might be the biggest shot you get from life to make a big change towards something better that you have ever done until now. Crisis can be empowering.

Almost every time, a crisis represents a sign that what you have been doing is not serving you anymore and you need to get rid of old habits, behaviors and thought patterns and raise yourself to a new consciousness in order to find yourself at a new and better place.

Turning the Crisis into a Blessing:

If you are going through a crisis right now, I urge you today to stop for a moment and think of what would you really want to do with your life if this crisis wasn’t there to stop you, but instead it showed up to point you to a better place.

The main question you need to ask yourself now is: What is this crisis I am going through telling me about myself and what do I need to change?

Consider what lessons you are learning from this crisis and what these lessons are telling you about the direction that your life had taken in the recent past. Think of what changes you need to make in your life for positive change, that have been inspired by this crisis.

Form a new vision and set of goals for moving forward. The vision can include changes in your work, your business, your health, your mental state, contribution to your family and contribution to society.

Take a pen and paper write it down this new vision in detail. Don’t worry for now about ‘how’ things will happen. When the ‘why’ is strong enough, the ‘how’ WILL show up!

Then write down a number of steps that you need to take to reach your new goals and pledge to spend time every single day taking action towards achieving those goals.

Everyone who has achieved greatness in this world, has had the same hours in the day as you, responsibilities to take care of, have gone through difficult periods of crisis and difficulties and yet they have found the time and the way to make great things happen.
